RULES

There were many projects entered in this years remodeling competition. As was the case in new construction, a panel of judges were asked to consider a number of factors in choosing award winners:

QUALITY IN CONSTRUCTION - Entries were judged on:

  • Overall appearance
  • Attention to detail
  • Custom applications
  • Application of standard stock

DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY - Judges looked for:

  • Solutions to a difficult problem
  • Special Out-of-the-Ordinary touches

SENSITIVITY TO EXISTING STRUCTURE - Judges considered:

  • The blend of existing structure with the new
  • The appropriateness of materials in the project

These remodeling projects were also judged on the sensitivit y of the project to the customers needs and whether or not each project was judged to be worthy of an award, based on its individualmerits. As was the case in new home construction, these last two questions were asked to determine a winner in case of a tie in any specific category, as well as to ensure consistency of excellence in any category in which there may be only one entry.

All entries had to score a minimum number of points to receive an award, and consequently, there was not necessarily an award presented in each category. Also, as was the case in new construction, there were multiple awards in some categories, based on different price ranges.

A NOTE ABOUT THE WINNERS: In order to be judged a winner, an entry had to meet a minimum threshold of points from a panel of three judges. Therefore there may be more than one winner in a given category and likewise, there may be no winner in a given category, even if that category has only one entry. In order to achieve Best of Show honors, a winning entry must achieve a second, higher, point threshold established by the commit tee. As a result there may be a winner in a category, but that category's winner may not necessarily achieve Best of Show honors.
